Where all hope is lost and you feel like the world is against you? That you feel as if you\u2019re a failure? Don\u2019t worry: you\u2019re not alone \u2013 we\u2019ve all been there. From the client from hell, whose demands are impossible, to the boss who you think feels that you\u2019re an idiot because you can\u2019t do anything right, every single one of us has felt like giving up. But before you do this, take a step back, analyse the situation, look at the facts (minus the emotion)\u00a0and see if it is really as bad as you think.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Take emotion out of the situationto put everything in an<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nThis is very difficult to do \u2013 even more so as you\u2019ve put a lot of work into the situation so you\u2019ll probably feel that you\u2019ve invested a lot personally which is why you&#8217;ll obviously feel emtionally\u00a0involved. So\u00a0when that client or boss criticises what you\u2019ve done, you\u2019ll feel that it\u2019s an attack on you. But try to do divorce emotion. If you can\u2019t do it, get a colleague or friend to help you. Emotion clouds your judgement and can even put a negative spin on the facts, depending on how you feel about these which is why you need to look at it dispassionately.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Look at the cold, hard facts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Look at what actually happened, rather than what you remember happened. This is why it\u2019s so important to \u2013 in anything you do in business \u2013 to put everything in an e-mail. So if a client comes back to you, saying that they are TOTALLY unhappy with what you\u2019ve done even though they had indicated previously that they were ecstatic, you can turn around and say to them that you did exactly what they wanted you to do. And you can produce the documentary proof to back up your statements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Never accuse<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although the temptation to level blame in situations like this is great, don\u2019t do it \u2013 this will make people raise their defences, and they won\u2019t listen to what you have to say.
