Because crunches are the only way to get six-pack abs, right? Wrong!\u00a0\u00a0So how do you get amazing abs? Simple: You need to make your body \u2013 especially your belly \u2013 as lean and strong as possible. Your abdominal muscles sit behind a layer of fat that was put there to protect your organs and help keep you warm. So if you want to see your abs, you need to make this layer of fat as lean and tight as possible.<\/p>\n<p>To achieve this, you have to:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.\u00a0Clean up your diet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your granny was right: You are what you eat. So if you keep eating <em>koeksisters<\/em> and burgers, no amount of crunches is going to make you lean.<\/p>\n<p>Focus on a diet that\u2019s low in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trifocusfitnessacademy.in\/potatoes-have-lots-of-nutritional-value\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">carbohydrates,<\/a> refined foods and <a href=\"https:\/\/trifocusfitnessacademy.co.za\/blog\/blog-articles\/how-to-quit-sugar\/\">sugars.<\/a> Opt for meals with a moderate amount of protein, and an abundance of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trifocusfitnessacademy.in\/blog\/blog-articles\/secret-fish-oils\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">healthy fats <\/a>(like avocado, extra virgin olive oil, etc) and fibre (hello, green leafy veggies!).<\/p>\n<p>The trick with diets is to turn them into a lifestyle and you can\u2019t do this if your chosen diet is not sustainable. So avoid fad diets that promise great results but will leave you feeling ill, weak or just plain frustrated. Keep it simple: Eat whole foods \u2013 the right ones.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vmw9YMyAbiA\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0Get the right exercise<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Running on the <a href=\"http:\/\/safitnessdirectory.co.za\/?s=treadmill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">treadmill <\/a>for three hours every day, chasing the six-pack abs\u00a0dream is NOT going to give you that six-pack. Too much high-intensity exercise could result in a nasty injury.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, there\u2019s plenty of evidence that cardio training alone is less effective than a mix of cardio and strength training. What\u2019s more, you need overall body strength \u2013 not just abdominal strength \u2013 to get closer to the six-pack abs\u00a0 you\u2019re after.<\/p>\n<p>We recommend you create a workout schedule that offers you a mix of interval training, including weights\/strength training, as well as cardio exercise. And don\u2019t forget that a rest day once or twice a week is also beneficial. You could use those rest days to stretch, or engage in say, team sports that get you moving and keep you engaged with your goals.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and keep in mind that functional abdominal exercises will be more useful than regular old crunches (which ca hurt your lower back).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3183\" src=\"https:\/\/trifocusfitnessacademy.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/motivation_june01-300x274.jpg\" alt=\"How to get those six-pack abs\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>3.\u00a0Give it time<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Getting lean takes time. You won\u2019t see huge changes in your abdominals in one week, or two. It may take months before you start to \u201csee\u201d your six-pack\u00a0abs. So be patient and just keep up the hard work. Remember that, once you start getting lean, you have to work harder to see big losses.<\/p>\n<p>Also, keep in mind that every body is different. In fact, science has shown us that men lose body fat easier and quicker than women (women need to have a higher body fat percentage for normal bodily function). So be realistic in your goals from the start.
